The Drogheda area has a population of 78,000 people with the town itself accommodating 31,000 people. OMP were appointed to develop a spatial masterplan to provide for the sustainable development of 254hectares / 630 acres of land north of the town centre. This Local Area Plan proposes the creation of three new residential neighbourhoods to cater for a population increase of 20,000 people. One of the primary elements identified in the masterplan is the provision of an East-West cross route and a substantial linear park linking the new neighbourhoods.
Each of the three neighbourhoods has a commercial/civic centre, a school and sports and leisure facilities located along the cross route. The masterplan is committed to retaining strong links back to the town of Drogheda whilst ensuring that each of the three communities within the development area is self-sustaining and distinctive both in character and appearance. Every home will be within a 10 minute walk of a primary school, the shops or the park.
