O’Mahony Pike Architects were appointed as team leaders and urban designers by the Limerick Northside Regeneration Agency to prepare an economic and physical masterplan for a troubled and isolated residential estate.

The challenge was to identify physical and social solutions that will convert a neglected community of over 1000 families into a thriving, connected and safe new city quarter. Remedying the physical barrier caused by the existing arrangement of a single access to serve a population of 4000 people, our masterplan proposed new through connections to the surrounding city with dignified entrances and civic spaces marking the new access points into and out of Moyross. A new mixed-use town centre formed the heart of a reimagined precinct that reaches out to incorporate key nearby institutions such as Thomond Park Stadium and the Limerick Institute of Technology, and prioritises affordability and employment attractors.
